Fitnah of Mr. Javed Ghamidi

“Among people there is a kind whose sayings on the affairs of the world fascinate you: he calls Allah again and again to bear testimony to his sincerity; yet he is most fierce in enmity.”

(Holy Quran 2: 204)

Introduction

This blog is NOT intended to humiliate or insult anyone, but just to warn the people of wrong messages being conveyed by a person who has somehow strayed far away from the teachings of Islam. Such teachings have now been observed to lead people astray from the true teachings of Islam.

He dangerously states that many verses of the Holy Quran & many sayings of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) have been misinterpreted by ALL (yes ALL) the Imams, Mufassirs, Muhaditheen, Fuqaha, Ulema of the past 1300 years & present ones. All this will be explained ahead.

Major Points of Contention

His ‘Fatwas’ or Beliefs

His beliefs are opposite/contrary or different from those agreed by Ijma Ummat (Consensus of scholars of the Muslim Nation) such as:

  1. Hazrat Isa AS (Jesus) died and will NOT rise again
  2. Imam Mehdi is NOT coming
  3. There is no Fitna (Trial) of Dajjal
  4. Women do NOT need to observe headscarves or Hijab
  5. Men can shake hands with Non-Mahram women
  6. Women can lead prayers in mixed congregation
  7. Shahada (Witness) of a woman is equal to a man
  8. Praying in Congregation is not compulsory for men
  9. Beard is NOT Sunnah, but a tradition of Arabs
  10. Blasphemy laws should be abolished
  11. Taking Riba (interest) is haram (forbidden)  but giving Riba is not; it is allowed
  12. Car leasing and Insurance are permissible in Islam
  13. Does NOT accept Rajm (stoning till death) as punishment for adultery by married men and women
  14. Establishment of Islamic government NOT necessary
  15. Apostate does NOT need to be killed
  16. Rejects many Sahih Hadith
  17. Denies 7 recitations of the Holy Quran
  18. Says there are NO such prayers as Taraveeh Prayers
  19. Relaxations on listening to Music
  20. And many many more e.g. on issues of inheritance, Hudood Laws, Jihad etc
  21. Does not believe in ‘political Islam’
  22. Does not believe Qadianis are Non-Muslims
  23. Says Isra and Miraaj was a dream of the prophet PBUH, not a reality
  24. Latest : There is no Jumma prayer in USA!

Insult to Other Scholars

A good scholar, whether religious or scientific, always gives his opinion and respects others opinions. But Mr. Ghamidi has down rightly insulted the opinions of other scholars, perhaps indicating that ONLY he is right instead of stating ‘Allah knows best’ which is always mentioned by good scholars.

He has castigated many renowned Sunni scholars including Syed Hussain Ahmed Madani, Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi, Allama Shabbir Ahmed Uthmani & has called them bigots. According to him this group of scholars are like an old building with rotten foundations that will become empty through passage of time.

He even proclaims all the four Imams of Fiqh (Imam Abu Hanifa, Imam Shafi, Imam Hanbali & Imam Malik) are wrong and he is right on many points. Astagfirullah!

Introducing New Ideas in Deen

The above statements of his prove that he wants to modernize/liberate Islam & introduce new ideas in Islam that will conform to modern society. In reality if we look closely most of his ideas conform to beliefs of Christians, Jews, Qadianis and/or western culture.

To be on the Lookout For Such Fitnah

I would very much like you to remember the words of the companion of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), Hazrat Ma’az bin Jabal (RA), what a wonderful principle he explained as he addressed one of his students:

“I warn you against the error of the wise one. For sometimes the Shaitan utters through the tongue of the wise one a word of error and the hypocrite sometimes speaks a word of
truth.”

The student asked: “May Allah have mercy on you, if such is the case, how will I know when a wise one occasionally speaks a word of error and a hypocrite a word of truth? How will I know what is false and what is truth?”

Hazrat Ma‘az (RA) said:
“Be careful of such statements about which is being said: “What kind of statement is this? How can he have said this? “Do not allow such words to turn you away from the wise man. It is quite possible that he may have recanted or retracted from the statement.
Then you may find the truth when you hear it. For the truth has light in it.”

Now let us ponder over the important points mentioned by Sayyidina Ma’az (RA):

A. In the first place he tells us that not everyone speaking a word of truth is
necessarily a wise man. A hypocrite also does that. This shows that just because one had heard a word of truth from anyone, one should not become an ardent follower of his. We people have a habit of becoming ardent fans of such people after sometimes merely having heard one speech by him or after having merely read one single article by him.

Then on the basis of that single speech or article we tend to praise him to high heaven. And worse than that: Sometimes we are aware of the fact that a certain person is irreligious and acting in a sinful manner. Yet, because he utters such words which are in agreement with our desires, we try to prove him to be a deeply religious personality of saintly nature -so much so that (May Allah forbid) we bring him even near to prophethood.

If occasion comes along when he says something in disagreement with our wishes, we bury him down below. The result is that about the very same person we will one day shout: “Zindabad! Brave! Long may he live!” And the next day we will shout: “Murdabad! May you die! Death to you!” Is this not similar to the case of “waking up as a believer and going to bed at night as an unbeliever” as is mentioned in a Hadith?

b. Secondly Sayyidina Ma’az (RA) says that it is possible that a wise
man may sometimes utter a word which may be an error and lead astray. Hence after merely having heard a person one or two times, one should not become an ardent adherent.

What is needed is that the actual facts and circumstances should
first be ascertained, pondered over and considered. If, in the majority of affairs he is found to be a follower of the Shariah and a sincere follower of the Sunnat, then undoubtedly he may be accepted as a guide. Then, if after full investigation, some derogatory thing or unacceptable statement is
attributed to him, it should not be accepted.

Two Categories of People
There are basically two kinds of people:

Category # 1.
One who want to learn the actual truth and follow it, even if it is against their taste, wishes, and desires, even if they have to give their life for it, they would follow it after their heart recognizes the truth from authentic sources.

Category # 2. Who desire to do something (e.g. listening to music, no hijab, no beard, car loan, insurance etc) but know the authentic sources forbid it, so to console their heart they seek scholars who would allow those forbidden things for them, but such people forget that there is also a scholar sitting inside them (inner conscious) “Zameer” ki awaaz bhi kabhi sun leni chahiyey.

Ghamidi is a perfect choice for the people of category # 2.

Suspicious Way of Addressing

It is very interesting that Ghamidi does not refer to himself as a Muslim; rather he talks about Muslims as what is known in English Grammar “third person plural” tense. He says:

  • their messenger
  • they (the Muslims) love their messenger
  • Muslims…..love for their messenger

Refutation of Verses of the Holy Quran

Mr. Ghamidi refutes clear cut verses of the Holy Quran by tampering them & gives them meanings not given by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), his companions (RA) & great Imams of Fiqah & Hadith.

One example is of the ascension of Hazrat Isa:

One can clearly see that Mr. Ghamidi has made an error in translation & deviated from mainstream beliefs and disregarded Sahih Ahadith related to this topic.

Refutations of Sayings of the Holy Prophet

Mr. Ghamidi does not claim to refute the status of Hadith directly yet he takes it a stage further ahead and categorizes Hadith as something from which Ahkaam (Rulings) cannot be drawn and only Quran is the original source

He wrongly states that Hadith cannot be used for the translation and explanation of Quran.

Stance on Beard & Hijab

He forwards his corrupt views and clearly insults the messenger of Allah by rejecting the Hadith of Beard in Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim. He also mocks at the Hadith and plays it off as cultural norm.

Same for Hijab and Miswak taken as part of culture & norms of the society at the time!

He also believes that the special restrictions for wives of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) are not applicable to all women at all times. He considers “head-covering” for women a cherished part of Muslim social custom and tradition but not compulsory.

All secular nations banning Hijab must be extremely pleased with his Fatwas like these!

Even this recent revert to Islam (daughter of Italian ex-parliamentary member), Ms Manuela Franco Barbato, now Ms Aisha, knows the importance of Hijab in Islam more than Mr. Ghamidi:

He denies the azab-e-qabar (punishment in the grave), clearly mentioned in the Ahadith.

More Social Issues

He promotes mingling of men and women.

Hand shaking between male and female is allowed in Islam because it is a part of culture.

Women may lead the prayers in a mixed male female congregational prayer and thus this is what we get:

His view on Imam Mehdi

He claims that there is no evidence in Quran and Sahih Hadith about coming of Imam Mehdi and he is only mentioned in books of Ahle-Tashea!

Major Signs of the End Times & the Sequence of their Coming

Rejects Rajm

He does NOT accept Rajm (stoning till death) as punishment for adultery by married men and women:

Issues Related to Islamic State & Foreign Affairs

He states that there is no need to have an Islamic state (not talking about ISIS!). So what state should we have: non-Islamic state with no Quranic law?

He believes in democracy which most scholars have rejected:

The Flaws of Democracy-An Islamic Perspective

He states that Afghanistan & Taliban ‘deserved’ punishment from USA for the type of Islam they were propagating. Has he never heard the term ‘Two wrongs do not make a right”? And what about the sovereignty of nations? Astagfirullah

He also rejects Jihad Kashmir & has issues with its strategy without a word on what Kashmiris are going through.

He says that Bait ul Maqdas should be handed over to JEWS!

He has no comments on 9/11 truth, 7/7 london bombings or other false flag attacks caused by Zionists.

Answer to Terrorism

He gives three vague answers to terrorism

1. Training on counter-narrative

2. Basic education from Class 1-12 should be ‘broad based’ education and not enforced

3. The Friday pulpit should NOT be for Ulema, but for the state

In other words, he wishes to bring secularism in the new and present generation!

Difference Between Religion & Deen & the Fault with Secularism

Political Islam

Thus no wonder he does not believe in Political Islam

Economic Issues

He approves of interest based car leasing from banks including Murabaha and Ijarah. He also approves of Insurance. He has nothing to say of paper money & its evils.

He believes taking riba (interest) is forbidden but giving riba is allowed. And that riba is not on usable items but only on consumable items. Mr. Orya Maqbool Jan has given excellent answers here:

Hudood Ordinance

He was fully supported by the Qadiyani lobby against the Hudood Ordiance.

  • He does not believe that an Apostate (one who abandons Islam & chooses another religion) should be killed
  • He is against stoning a married woman guilty of Zina
  • Many other issues

Blasphemy Laws

“The blasphemy laws have no justification in Islam. These ulema [council of clerics] are just telling lies to the people”

Again insulting all Ulema (religious scholars) instead of respecting their opinion and disagreeing at the same time!

Rejection of Taraveeh Prayers

He says there is no such prayer as Taraveeh prayers. He probably forgot that many fuqaha, ulema scholars have mentioned it in their books.

Imam Bukhari has mentioned ‘Book of Taraveeh’ in hi ‘Sahih Bukhari’, regarded by many as the most authentic book after the Holy Quran.

Imam Muslim has also mentioned and so have all the four Imams, Imam Shafi, Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal, Imam Malik & Imam Abu Hanifa. And so many other Fuqaha, Ulema, scholars etc. Are they all wrong??

He does not believe Qadianis are Non-Muslims

Miscellaneous Issues

He believes that no sort of magic was done on the Prophet (PBUH).

He does not believe in 2/3 inheritance for girls if there are only girls left from parent. He has different concept of Kalala than others.

Major Reason for his wrong ‘Fatwas’

Many of his beliefs mentioned above are similar to those people who reject sayings of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) as they are elaborated/explained in the Ahadith. Such people only believe or claim to believe in only what the Holy Quran states.

Who benefits or who is benefitting from his thoughts?

  • Liberals
  • Secularists
  • Category 2 people described above
  • Support of People who Reject Ahadith
  • Confuse the general public about traditional true teachings of Islam (even I got confused when I read his view on stoning married women!)
  • Non-Muslims including
    • Christians
    • Jews/Zionists
    • Qadianis/Ahmedis

Many of his thoughts align with thoughts of Qadianis e.g. death of Isa & refusal of his 2nd coming, blasphemy laws etc.

May be this was the plan after all: to bring up such a person who can appease such people & confuse the masses without raising direct suspicion (that he is a Qadiani etc).

Liar

Being misguided is a different matter than being a liar. He has several times stated that ‘there is no Sahih Hadith stating that….’ and later that statement is proved a lie.

Hazrat Safwaan bin Sulaim (RA) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) was asked:

“Can a believer be a coward? He said, “Yes, he can be coward. Then it was asked whether a believer could be a miser? He replied, “Yes, he can be a miser”, it was then asked whether a believer could be a liar? He replied, “No, a believer cannot be a liar.”

(Imam Malik, Mishkaat)

Consequences of his Teachings

  • Division in Ummah
  • Confusion in the Ummah
  • Misguiding the Ummah e.g.

Mufti/Ulema/Scholars who Refute or Preach Against his thoughts

  • Late Maulana Maududi
  • Late Dr Israr Ahmad
  • Late Dr Ahmad Deedat
  • Dr Zakir Naik
  • Sheikh Nouman Ali Khan
  • Mr. Orya Maqbool Jan
  • Sheikh Imran Hosein
  • Dr. Bilal Philips
  • Mr. Tariq Jameel
  • Mufti Taqi Usmani
  • Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rahman and almost every other Sunni/Ahli-Hadees Scholar

Late Dr Israr Ahmad prohibited his speeches in the mosque run by his party Tanzeem Islami, because he believed Mr. Ghamidi was misguiding the public.

His Misguided Disciples

  • Mr Khalid Zaheer (many appearances on TV)
  • Moiz Amjad
  • Some of his close associates had already been killed like Dr. Muhammad Farooq Khan and Dr. Habib-ur-Rehman, the latter was murdered in his clinic

Conclusion

This is a reminder to all Brothers and Sisters who are residing in Pakistan (and also outside it) that they should refrain themselves and instruct others to refrain from the writings, speeches and programs of Javed Ahmed Ghamdi.

Even sharing his programs  in which there may be some truth, especially on social media, is a way of promoting him & his Fitnah, for the innocent unknowingly listen more to his speeches in where there is much falsehood. It is almost like quoting Mirza Qadiani (or some other fitna) and justifying by saying that at least this quote of his is right. Banning him all together would be the best option.

  1. Sir, with due respect, can you give references for all allegation on Ghamidi, especially from his book Meezan as it is the basic of all his thoughts, the allegation requires a clear description of what he thinks, and what is wrong in this from deeni pov, apart from the most quoted line that his thought is different from izma…

  2. May Allah Subhanahu wa ta ‘ala bless you and protect you and the entire Muslim Ummah from the Fitna of misguided people.
